Default HELP!!! before I set the bloody thing on fire!!!

Ok I just changed the engine on my 96 sti.
I got it all back together then tried to start it but nothing from the starter motor so I checked it was getting power when I turned the key etc and it's all there!! I thought maybe it's stuck? So off I go to put it in gear on roll it forward a little as my drive is on a hill to see if it would free up. Next I put my foot on the clutch to take it back out of gear and CLUNK! the pedal hit the floor! So now I can't get it out of gear and the clutch pedal is on the floor
I put the release bearing on the fork before fitting the new engine and replaced the big pin so what could of gone wrong?

I'm losing the plot with this thing now so as much help, advice and info will be very helpful to me before I burn the thing

Steve when you put the bearing on the fork did you ensure the fork was fitted securely into the bearing tabs?

And also when you inspected the bearing, did you notice the retaining clip on it? if so was it there? (to me it sounds like it was) but it seems as though the clip didn't clip itself into the pressure plate properly and hence why it has popped off.

Or check that your clutch slave hasn't just fallen off due to a bolt breaking or something. Go to the gearbox and see if the fork is just flopping about. This is very very hard to move by hand if the bearing is attached and in position. If its flopping then it will be gearbox or engine out again to sort.

Subarus run a pull type clutch hence why they are heavily dependent on the bearing and it clipping itself into the pressur plate.

Thanks for the reply Baly.
I think I got it all spot on and I was taking pics as I was going along so I have a pic of the fork and bearing as I joined it to the engine.
See if it's ok

That's all present and correct. (How) did you clip the thrust bearing back into the pressure plate?

Mind you this is most probably nothing to do with the "car won't turn over" problem you also seem to be having. Are you sure the starter has been fully reconnected - and can you hear the solenoid engaging?

Looks right there mate, did you pay any attention to the clip which goes around the bearing once it pushes into the clutch pressue plate?

Hi again,

All sorted ISH!

I was told that the clutch may need pumping after taking it off so I lifted the pedal and bingo it flicked straight back up and works!! The big clunk sound must of been it clicking in to place?
Bad earth on my engine is the starting problem! I put a jump lead from the negative on my battery to the earth point on the manifold and it turned over fine.

BUT! it wont start now! It gave a massive backfire and it turns over odd fast then slow and fires up when I let go of the key from turning it over.
Engine timing I guess?

Off to the garage with it Monday now

Cheers for the help
