Default VF34 compressor surge

Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me why my VF34 is surging just before hitting full boost in 4th & 5th gear when i never had this problem when i was running a VF28 on my version 3 type R?? I have not added anything else mods wise so all parameters are the same as before.
It only happens in 4th & 5th gear. 1st - 3rd i get 1.2/1.3 bar no problem. What can do to fix it?

Thanks,
Imran

@ Seddomyster - basically, its when the flow of air passing through/over the blades of the turbo impeller is disturbed/distorted. Thats just a very non technical explanation but i'm sure someone will come along to fully explain. Or you can do a search on here for it.

@ Tidgy - no its not been mapped for it, but neither was the VF28 and that performed very nicely at 1.1/1.2 bar for nearly 2 years. Its not that i dont want to get it mapped - its more that the facility/expertise is not available where i am from (Nairobi-Kenya).

Is that the only reason though? It needs to mapped? It cant be anything mechanical?

Thanks,
Imran

It needs mapped, the turbo is basically flowing more air than the engine can use @ the given rev range in said gears so it goes backwards causing the surge.

Go onto www.Romraider.com and have a good read on the forum. If there is no one near you who can do it then try doing it yourself.

as above, get it mapped, fitting a turbo without mapping is asking to be playing catch the piston

As the others have said, it needs to be mapped to be eliminated.

Why not pay to fly out the JGM! Get him a Ryanair fare... LOL

LOL.... i wish i could afford it!
Some of the rally guys do exactly that but as i work in Sudan i'm hardly ever around when they do it.
If any mapper is reading this - if you ever decide to visit Kenya for a Safari holiday please let me know and maybe we can coordinate meeting there and work out something??

Thanks for the advice people:-)
