Default my comparison of vf series turbos

now i have been looking at changing my turbo again. and i have now.(again)

i was searching for lots of info before i changed but the search feature seems to be a little messy sometime.

car is a v3 sti so it come standard with the vf23. i had great fun with this turbo but soon changed to the vf35 which i found to be more aggressive low done but did run out of puff. fun turbo but was having issues with taking it above 1.0 bar as fluctuation was weird.

now i have changed to the vf43 and i must say that the boost comes in slightly later but oh my god the difference i found was hell of a lot. boosts to 1.2 and holds all the way!

what are other people opinions on this?? your finding? or facts

Hiya,

I think there must have been something wrong with your VF35 set up as mine (and others') 35s peak at 1.5 bar and hold 1.3/4 bar quite happily. On my car the VF35 produces about 340 of each.

Only issue with the 35 is that it can be a bit prone to surge due to the small compressor housing (p15) which gives it the great boost threashold and response. This can be minimised with the right supporting spec and good mapping though.

i dont disagree with you at all and there was nothing wrong with the turbo. just my car developed a dis liking to going over 1.4 bar of boost (fuel cut and all that). plus i think my acurator was a little shot so it wouldnt hold it and gave bad fluctuation. i fitted a restrictor pill of a p1 in it to bring the bosst down and this along with my other bits gave for good boost, i did find that it did run out of puff a bit but now the vf43 holds strong maybe due to the different compressor housing and being newer and all that.

when first fitted the vf35 was great and boosted to 1.5 but then my car had a hissy fit and started to reject the high boost!
