Default Rebuild for 320-360 BHP?

Hi people,

My engine is poorly, 1 of my Pistons has broken

I am looking to upgrade. Looking at 320 - 360bhp, the car is a MY93 with a TD05 16g turbo, full 2.5" scorpion straight thru.

Looking to upgrade most things, injectors(?), pistons(?), fmic etc etc

Got about £1000 - £1400 to spend over the next 10 months, maybe more we will have to see.

Any advice on what i would need for the power increase would be greatful, 1st time project so not sure on what else is needed.

Dont want the heavy bill of rebuilding from a specialist so, I will be doing the work myself as the car is at my mates garage in bits. Getting the block rebored and honed to 92.5, What size injectors? Which pistons/rods ??

Any help and advice would be appreciated

Thanks

Carl

You will most probably reach your budget with the bolt on parts alone. A good STI8 onwards bottom end will do the job and save you money.

To start with your going to need either the ecu mapping or an after market ecu, so thats anywhere between 300 - 1200 quid, bang goes your budget in one go.
Pistons, rods, bearings and crank will set you back 1400-1500 quid, your block will need cleaning out, say 100 quid for a good job, then there are all the small bits that need doing (as you see your 1-1.4k isnt really enough).
A full standard rebuild will set you back about 2.5k, start there and work from that figure, uprated parts will cost you more.

You're looking at about 2.5k minimum I'd say, more likely closer to 4k when you factor in ECU etc...

Sorry mate, but you may have to ask yourself if it's worth keeping the car. If you do upgrade, being a MY93, chances are your gearbox will let go (if std) and your brakes and suspension will need attention. Could turn into a money pit!

Speak to David at APi for good, no BS advice

After a long winded day today i have sourced together some pricing.

£220 for engine bore, skim heads and blocks, re-face, cut and seal valves, Check and polish crank. ACL mains and b/end £140

Not sure on what pistons might go for wiseco and manly rods £768

Total: £1128

Never polish a subaru crank, unless you want a rebuild again, its a big
Plus due to the debris that is probably floating around in your engine, you need to replace any other parts (oil cooler/modine) as these will just help you pay out more money 500 miles after your rebuild

Try 5 miles after the rebuild lol

I think you might be thinking of regrinding the crank, Tony! But then so might the OP!! HUGE No-no on a subaru crank!

To the OP: Mate, you REALLY need to speak to David at APi for a realistic idea of what this is gonna cost, or you'll only end up paying twice, the second time properly! Forewarned is forearmed!

I wish you the best with this!

By the end of next week i think i'll be makin just over the 350bhp mark. I bought a UK classic a year ago for £2600 and I've spent about £6000 extra and im still not finished spending

APi's number is 01926 614522...

They rebuilt our engine, and really do a good job... however it's not a cheap game!

We're pushing 354bhp and have spent 5k+ NOT including the rebuild, so the same as johnlogie really.

You've not got a hope in hell on a budget of 1-1.4k even if you do everything yourself... sorry!
