Default Smoke and 'check engine' probs

Hey

I have a few queries...

First one the car has been stood for over a day, on first start a cloud of smoke comes from the exhaust then at no other time is there smoke from the exhaust?
What could this be?

Next after the last couple of days ive noticed a little smoke coming from under the bonnet whilst driving. Just little puffs from time to time?
Ive noticed the dump vale is a little oily?

And just tonight the 'check engine' light come on for about 15 seconds, then went away. A minute later it come on again for about a minute this time then went away.
What could this be?

Cheers for any help/advice given.

Rob
