im sure most will tell you what they have is the best so i will as well

Just fitted a viper 460 to my 97sti overall very impressed with it.

i paid £105 for it and fitted it myself.

if i had more money i would have up graded to the 2 way version of this system viper 480 or 500 i think.

no afraid not. in fact because its a thatcham approved system in didnt come with any paper work intall manuals user guides or anything.

i was told that the seller could not suply them with the unit by order of thatcham.

he did email me everything though but no certificate.

the certificate is a bit of grey area at the minute with vsib going **** up at present the certificate is worthless

As far as i'm aware unless your a registered fitter fitting your own alarm reguardless of which thatcham approval it has will render the approval ussless so any certificates will be null and void anyways which i would imagine is why they wont be supplied.

For an alarm to have an insurance approval it also has to be fitted by an approved fitter.

until about 4 month ago you are exactly right but as i say with vsib going bust things are slightly different

An approved fitter is someone who has a vsib acreditation but so long as vsib doesnt exsist at the minute technically no one is an approved fitter.

thatcham are looking to sort this problem early next year by running the acreditation its self.

To befair i've been an approved to fit cat 2-1 alarm for years now so getting the certifate isnt an issue for me as i have them anyway

most vsib approved alarm installers will be able to issue a certificate for a small fee, just tell them that you lost it and will do one for you.

you any idea how this will go then D4ve when they get it up and running again? Will all the previously installed alarms ect still be approved or will they need recertified?

Reason i ask is i have the standard CAT 1 Impreza alarm and a Blackjax immobaliser on my scoob just now but as the dash is out i had been thinking about fitting maybe something like the Toad A606i which would do everything in one system, if it's gonna need recertified anyway then this might be a good time to fit it myself and save some cash.

as far as i know it will be just the same thatcham have already said that they will honnor any approved installer thee may be a different stamp on the certificate or something.

i have spoke to a few installers about this some are still using the vsib stamp as they always have others say they dont because it has no relevance any more.

that said i havent seen my company stamp for a long time. i just fiil in the certificate and sign it and that has always been ok. might be different with me fitting manufacture aproved sytems only. i dont know.

AS for get a certificate from some one else i spoke to one company about this and they said they would never issue a certificate for a system they had not fitted, then in the next breath they said unless they were paid £70 +vat which i thought was quite funny.

I have used the same installer for years and when I bought my car it didnt come with a certificate so I took it to him and for £25 he inspected the alarm and issued the certificate not a problem, spose it depends who u use on whether they will do it or not.

Yea i know what you mean about them not wanting to certify someone elses work, would mean doing the same stripping out of dash etc as it would to fit it in the first place to do it properly. Thats why i was thinking of fitting my own whilst the dash is out and all the wires can be seen easily, least then it's easy for whoever issues the certificate to inspect how i've done it.

What alarm's do you reccomend D4ve? I know there's alot of fitters that dont rate Clifford because of there unreliability, i've been reccomended Toad before.

ive had clifford and had no problems ive had toad with no problems. i fitted cobra systems usually but wouldnt have one on my car, they a just to boring.

They do what they have to but have no cool features.

i've just fitted a viper system which is made my dei so its basically a clifford with a different name.

I love it so far. Only been fitted for a few weeks though.

definately fit it with the dash out, i took my dash out just to fit my alarm. if you dont the wiring will be so easy to get to you may as well not bother fitting it at all
