Noticed abit of white mould under the mat the other day and since found it is damp undernath the carpet. The padded part of the carpet has soaked alot up so I;m not sure how bad the leak is. Any ideads where this would come from? If it was the heater matrix wouldn't I see the coolant level drop?

possible heater matrix but you usually end up with water in the passenger footwell but you may have stereo wiring etc in the way making the water drop into the drivers side?

Yes, you would eventually see the coolant level dropping if the matrix is leaking. You should be able to smell coolant in the cabin too, at least assuming you've actually got coolant in the system, rather than water.

Other common source is a leaky windscreen seal. Can be a pest to isolate too as most of where you'll be looking is hidden up behind the dash.
