Blown Turbo
Hi,
I have an 02 bugeye WRX STi, and the Turbo has just gone on it.
Its a VF35 any suggestions to upgrade or where to get a replacement / service exchange?
And how the hell do you get the heat shield off! I have managed to get all the bolts out but cant seem to get it off.
All reponses greatly appreciated.

Hi 2000 sport.
Re. the heat shield, I have all the m6 bolts out but tried to slide it back but cannot due to the brake servo being in the way and the unique design of the shield!
I saw the turbo on Ebay but thought i'd be better off buying a new one with warrenty.
Thanks anyway tho'

Hi Wrxpikey,
Pretty sure i have all the M6 bolts out. 10mm bolt? 17mm spanner? Only used a 10mm spanner.
Its loose and i can move it back and forth up and down but i cant seperate it or move it back very far due to the brake servo and the way its designed.
Thanks anyway.

Back to my original question

Looking to upgrade parts etc... Cos i have been quoted £1300+vat think this price is a joke for a turbo only, not fitted! from Andrew Page if thats the price then so be it but i dont think so some how i have has turbo cars for the past 14yrs and never been quoted this amount before!
Would like to know where other members have gotten their Turbo's from or how much their upgrades have cost?

My heat shield comes off easily, no problem with it fouling the servo?
If your after a new turbo, then expect to pay over a grand. Personally I would be looking at upgrading.

yes a different turbo will require a remap.
as stated above you will be looking upwards of 1K for the turbo alone.
you have a few choices so would find a mapper and have a chat with them regarding your asporations and what power you would like to get too.
one thing to keep in mind is that if you are going to look towards a larger turbo you are going to start running into lag compared with the current vf35 set up you have. also your clutch may be an issue if its only running a standard one.
you could have a look at;
vf34 bit more power than the vf35 and holds boost for longer
sc42, sc46 scooby clinic turbos (i run a sc46 and it's a great turbo once it gets going 1.8 bar to the red line)
md321 series (highly rated)
td05 18g/20g
many choices with many vairying costs !
good luck with whatever you decide.

Race dynamix is up at Newcastle quite often, have a word I'm sure he will sort you out.
I've had a few maps now off him and he's more then helpful.
As for the turbo you can pick up the 18g for 700 ish
