Default Change the up pipe?

Was looking the get the scoobyclinic full 3" decat system fitted to my 05 blob eye wrx, is it also worth changing the turbo uppipe at the same time?

or will this be a little pointless until i upgrade to a larger turbo?

will be getting remap induction kit and fuel pump done too.......

I had the full 3" decat exhaust system put on my hawkeye and did even get a few hours drive out if it. I had to have the turbo ported. But totally worth it!!

mate definately get the up-pipe!! i have a 2005 blob eye. I have had a bigger turbo fitted, full decat down pipe and blitz nur spec r middle n rear. The key being the decat up pipe, the original up pipe has the cat so if the structure of the cat breaks it will go straight through your turbo!! ouch!! if your guna decat the car, decat the whole thing mate, well well well worth it!!!! my car sounds like an absolute beast, even when miss banzai did the tunnel run everybody commented on the sound, trust me that up-pie does help the exhaust flow when you de-cat it! obviously i have all the other mods, i.e panel filter, injectors, fuel pump etc. good luck

Get the up pipe ,its an exhaust manifold off job so will need new gaskets etc ,will cost a few quid but i would still do it if cash allows.

The answer to that question depends entirely on the diameter of the replacement up-pipe.

Getting rid of the standard catted up-pipe you've got takes you one step forward, but most aftermarket replacements are larger in diameter than the OE ones, which could potentially take you one step back. Larger pipe is good for top-end power on a bigger turbo, but costs you on a TD04 because it dulls spool, and the little turbo doesn't shift enough air to make use of it.

will be getting remap induction kit and fuel pump done too.......
I'd find out what the diameter of your proposed replacement up-pipe is before making a decision. If you're sticking with the standard turbo I suspect the best performance option in the situation you're in would be to get hold of a classic or newage STi catless up-pipe cheap from one of the usual places, wrap and maybe weld 'n' port it.

Although all that said, if I was in your shoes I wouldn't get a 3" system in the first place. 2.5" better suited to the spec you're talking about, assuming you're sticking with it in the medium to long term.

yes it will be my long term car, i want to get it over the 300 bhp mark in two stages, the first being remap, exhaust, fuel pump and induction filter, then the second stage being a larger turbo, bigger injectors and a fuel presure regulator.

with this in mind would u still say go for the 2.5" exhaust system and may i ask why? sorry i am new to this and dont understand that much i thought the bigger the bore the better with turbo'd cars ?

If your going for 300 Im pretty sure you wont have to do quite as much as you think.I got 297 out of a 1999 turbo 2000 with ,fuel pump decat system, tubular headers with decat upipe and a k+n panel filter insert and mapped by Bob Rawle, 297bhp and 315 torque on the wrong fuel.Bob said it would have probably been 300 on vpower.

The system i had was one of those stainless 3" off ebay and was very good considering how much it cost but i dont think the fact it was 3" made much odds at those power levels.I have a bobeye sti now with around 400 bhp and its got a standard bore with a prodrive sports cat downpipe and a prodrive back box with stainless straight through 2.5 pipe inbetween .

yer i was told i would be looking at about 320 bhp with all that done and more if i upgraded the intercooler. its just that route seamed the most sensable for me, money wise any ways, i cant afford to have everything done at once. will prob take six months between first stage and the second.

i wish i knew more about these cars.

You're going to want the uppipe changed for the next stage, so you may as well get it done at the same time as the exhaust. Taking the cat out of the uppipe helps a bit. Useful info on upgrading 2.0WRXs here:
