Impreza 1.8 GL Wagon Help Please
Hi All
I have recently purchased a 96 1.8 GL AWD Wagon as a runabout, incidentally the owner before the current one was a Subaru dealership, it does have a few issues but otherwise very straight fun to drive car. The only problems I have is that the inner Near Side CV joint has gone (Boot split and full of water and lots of noise) and a knock from the steering which seems to me coming from quite high up.
Just a quick question, are the CV Joints / Driveshaft’s compatible with any of the other models? After searching fleebay and the like I haven’t been able to find any inner joints and only Turbo driveshaft’s. It has a dual range gearbox and non ABS if that helps.
Any help gratefully received
Cheers
Adam

If it's a front shaft, then you can fit a complete shaft from a turbo - all 1993-2000 turbo models and 2001-2004 WRX will fit - If the shaft you buy has an ABS ring, you can just knock it off with a hammer as it's only a press fit.
If you need a rear shaft then one from a 1992-1998 WRX should fit, as i beleive your car has an R160 diff, the same as an early turbo.
CV joints are 'fairly' interchangeable - From memory i think there are 3 different configurations of splines on the shaft.
