Changing ECU's
Hi ,just after a bit of quick info,
I have a 99 uk turbo 2000, if i change the ecu, to a sti5 type r ecu , is it likely to cause running problems, i have been told it will fit,but apparently you need to change over 2 wires (crank sensor +1 other wire). Also the ecu was mated to a vf28 turbo ,so will it make any difference once it is fitted using the smaller td04. Any help appreciated - cheers

I guess there is no benefit in this swap, only problems.
STi ECU is a) mapped for STi engine with it's turbo, intake, head, block etc and b) mapped for Japanese high octane fuel. So standard mapping in Jap ECU won't do any good to your car, performance will stay the same or become worse.
Why do you want to swap it at all?

Bit of a pointless excersize to be honest.
You'd still need to remap it. Personally I would suggest you didnt swap over. Unless of course it's already been ectuk'd and you'd save maybe 200 on licening costs. Either way it WILL need mapping if you swap.

Thanks alot mate,i had a feeling that was the answer or ,everybody that owns a uk car wouldn't bother having there ecu re mapped, they would just plug in an sti unit. Only asked the question as there was an ecu going cheap;as theres no point in buying it, i can put the money towards my remap after xmas now . cheers for the replies
