Backbox help
#1
I am looking to get a new/2nd hand backbox for my MY00.
I want something with a bit more noise but not too loud.
There have been some WRSport and STI boxes for sale recently, will these be better/same/worse than say a Magnex or SS interms of any power increase and noise increase?
Thanks
Steve
PS. centre section and downpipe are standard.

I have MY99 with a PPP Back Box.
Partly due to the old own looking like it was on its way out - well that was my excuse - ironically when I swapped then it was ok bar the front of the box.
Anyways, my understanding is the PPP BackBox or WRSport wont invalidate warranty, any other might depending on your dealer.
As for sound Magnex / SS are definitely louder than PPP, but the PPP box comes alive at about 3.5K so tootling round town its quite - open it up and its noticeable - but not unbearable i.e. on the motorway for a few hours.
Oh and its stainless - and there is a definite increase in mid range pickup.

I fitted a WR Sport box back in October (oval 120x70mm tailpipe). Gave a definite improvement in pull, especially from low down, and a very nice sound overall, louder and deeper than original but not as loud as Magnex or Scoobysport.
Noise has become a bit intrusive on the motorway now that I've decatted the system, but mine is a wagon which tend to be worse in this respect anyway. Extra insulation going in tomorrow under back seat and boot floor, if it stops raining!
AFAIK, the STi box is very similiar to the original item internally, hence is still quite restrictive.
The original system is 2.5", generally speaking a 3" system will give more power and noise, but 2.5" gives more torque apparently.
My advice is try the WR Sport if you can get one seondhand, don't think you'll be disappointed and you will probably be able to sell it on for close to what you pay if it doesn't suit your taste.
Cheers

Would add - I did cost up a WR Sport from my dealer - but at 350 notes I just couldnt bring myself to part with the dosh.
Went for a 2nd hand PPP Box 120 notes.
Either way WRSport or PPP BB you probably wont go wrong - good sound better pull + warranty.
Larfing !
