Head gasket fault
Hi everyone,
This is my first post as i have just got myself a scooby after a short time away from having one (2 years) and just stepped straight into a problem, i think i have a head gasket gone and was wondering if anyone knows if i would have any problems putting a '95 wrx engine into my '99 uk wagon as i have the engine out of my old scooby which i know is ok.
I was also wondering if the turbo from the wrx will fit and if there would be any difference in power output.
Thanks for your help!

A 95 engine is a phase 1, a 99 engine is a phase 2, its not a straight swap, and your better off just getting the head gasket repaired rather than buying a 2nd hand engine with no history.

Thanks for the reply the engine that i have is out of my old car so i know a lot of its history but there is always a risk i suppose, I take it if the engine is different not much else will transfer over?

No. Even forgetting about internal mechanical incompatibilities (I think the cam profiles changed between 95 and 99 for example, and the compression ratio may be different too), the 99MY inlet manifold won't fit the 95MY engine. Because of that, you can't use the '99 injectors or loom either.
As Tony says, if you think you have a leaking HG on the new engine, by far the easiest option would be to get that addressed. Every other possible way forward in which you go out of your way to use the old lump causes more hassle and is less likely to leave you with a properly functioning car.
