need more power
Hi all,was driving my recently aquired first scooby the other day when an evo 8 came right up to my back end. As i was driving along an open stretch of road i floored it and was amazed when the evo flew past like i was driving a bus ! My car is an 01 bug eye which came with a rolling road printout for 257 bhp. I know the evo has more power but the speed with which it passed left me wondering if i made the right choice of car. My question is what is the best route to gain more power with a budget of around £ 1500 pounds. The car as a dump valve and ninja exhaust, apart from that i am not aware of any mods.

255lhr fuel pump, 550 Injectors, STi Intercooler+under tray, full decat, VF34/35 turbo, remap. Should be about 330bhp, but you might still get blitzed by an EVO, there's always someone out there quicker than you.

After owning several high performance cars and after reading all the hype i decided to go down the subaru route, just a little disapointed with he performance considering mine has around 260 bhp the standard cars must be real slouhes. Dont want to beat everything else just want a respectable performance output.

To be fair, you only have a piece of paper to say you have 260 bhp. I had a letter from Reader's Digest to say I had won a million, but here I am still driving my 02 Bugeye. They are not slow, not by a long way, but EVOs are quicker out of the box and most will tinker with them as Impreza owners do.
As for upgrading, I agree with the last comment to go down the secondhand route. I got a Prodrive Sportcat for £120, a Prodrive 2nd cat pipe for £20-30ish, Prodrive backbox for £70, de-res centre pipe for a tenner(!), I have a Japspeed up-pipe in the cupboard, brand new that I got for the princely sum of £21 off the bay. A Simota panel filter for about £15. OK Im tight, I know that, but Im tinkering with the idea of a remap from Dynamix for about £300 and a Walbro 255 lph fuel pump at the same time. I presume Ill be looking at 270ish bhp, and better driveability, dependent on the map.

Don't be too hard on ya Scooby, he could have had any kind of mods over you, saw your car was fairly new and fancied his chances, it tends to be the older cars that have had the heavier mods and sometimes rediculous bhp etc. Not all Evos will be that quick and not all Scoobys will be beaten by him. I had a silver Evo in Stevenage the other day sitting up my Kyber and when i decided to follow him he cut everybody up to get a gap between him and me before flooring it. Ya never know quite what they're intentions are.
Don't worry about it just enjoy ya car.

Lots can be done with the bug eye - they can really fly if a few selective mods done well. (and a remap)
The evo has a quicker spooling turbo as std so unless you decat and map to suit you will get left behind. But it doesnt have to be that way
Evo is not the dark side it is the wrong side
