Default td05 20g

are they all the same? Im wanting to get 400bhp and have herd i need a 20g. I have found 1 on a starlet website and was just wondering if there are different versions, cant really see that turbo spooling on a 1.3 if it can produce 400bhp on a impreza??

cheers
Mike

not all 20Gs are the same buy genuine for an extra few hundred you get peice of mind and good resale. 20G will make 360-380ish you got to run meth,e85 or octane booster in order to crack the 400. md321h md555 fp green sc40 will all make 400 but you also need all supporting mods with it.

20G aint laggy they might be faster spooling turbo but it aint laggy on a scooby

good luck

Sell your car and buy a newage STI if you want a cheap 400bhp (I'm deadly serious here) as your classic will put 1 or more rods through the block before then otherwise its going to be a very expensive job and here is why....

Fully forged engine rebuild, 3-3.5k, gearbox (as you have the 2nd weakest turbo box of the lot and the torque produced will kill it), so ppg is 3.5k or a 2nd hand 6 speeder and diff is 2.5k (6k so far) a new 450+ lb torque rated clutch, say 500 quid, new brake setup for 900 quid, possably some suspension mods if not new suspension, say 1k max, all the ancilleries, fmic, injectors, turbo, caik, ecu, uprated fuel pump etc, add another 1-2.5k (depends what you get), so between 8.5 to 10k, see its not cheap, sell yours, get 4k and your in my05 sti territory.

cheers for the info tony! are they really that bad? i thought the sti type r has uprated gearbox etc as standard?

Really do love 2 door scoobs so id rather pay the money for all the above parts than sell up and get a newage, just might take a bit longer lol.

My goal is a fast road/track, rather go quicker through the corners than straight line speed. currently mines at 307bhp but thats with a falty maf sensor which is causeing it to run lean so shes off the road while im waiting on the new part, so should be around 315 when shes running right probaly enough for now anyways lol

Yes the standard gearboxes (even though they are extra hardened gearsets) will be eaten alive, you dont want more than 320-330lbs of torque through these for reliability, a uk one probably 300-310lbs, engines are a big weak spot, the rods are the same on all the ej20 turbo's, max safe limit is about 350bhp, back in 1999/2000 they were uprgading the lot at 320bhp for safety if they wanted more power and ppg gearsets.
