Default 97ron or v-power ,after remap

HI, when i had my 03 blob sti remaped it was done using 97 ron as thats all i can get easliy round my way. I've now found somewhere about 10 miles away that does v-power, i know subarus self adjust but would it be worth going out of my way to get the v-power or not ?

could do, it will burn faster which is always good and it may clean the crap out of the bottom of your engine and its about the same price. if ekutec should be no probs but if its a program remap which is £150 cheaper than Ekutec then no no.

I would have thought no difference between open ecu map and ecutek, same results should be attained, but v power would possibly enable ecu to add in a little timing, but I do not understand why a ecutek map would be any different to a cheaper open ecu one.

Be interested to know why you would think there was a difference.

Look at it this way.....

Your map will be based on the fuel type used during the mapping session. If you up the octane rating with VPower afterwards, you will have a further element of safety.

Super Unleaded would be absolutely fine on yours as that is what it was mapped for. If you can put VPower in, whilst you may not gain any power benefits, you will gain some extra safety. At the very least if you went on a track day (for instance) I would use VPower as that extra safety would be a benefit imo.

Obviously if you remapped again for VPower I suspect you would see some power benefits, but we are not talking massive amounts here.

Personally, I have separate maps for both VPower (used 99% of the time) and Super Unleaded. I can flip between the two if I get caught short at finding a VPower station (which can be a problem if you are travelling). It all depends on how far your map is pushing things, to see any benefit with this kind of approach.

Personally wouldn't use anything less than 99 or v-power in my Scooby anyway. If I get stuck and have to put less in from anywhere else, i'd only stick a tenners worth in to get me to a Shell garage or Tesco's.

Personally i wouldn't but mine actually runs worse on v power and tesco 99 or any shell fuel infact. So much worse the car will not start first time on these fuels, but on 95 tesco and 95 or 97 esso runs perfectly.

Obviously though mine is quite a rare case and the ecu which i bought has probably had this mapped in...... strange thoough why it has these issues on what is supposed to be "better" fuel....
