2007 STI - Light accelerator
I've recently changed from a 2002 STI to a 2007 (Hawkeye) STI and one of the most difficult differences to get used to is the extremely light electronic accelerator pedal in the 2007 model. Its so light that every bump in our terrible roads (NI) has my foot bouncing up and down causing the motor to kangaroo. I'm actually getting a sore leg holding my foot up!
Has anyone else noticed this? and has anyone investigated installing a heavier spring to give a bit more weight to the pedal?

Agree on the seats! Why change something thats perfect? The 2002 seats were much better. The 2007 seats are too wide, dont hold you as well, too low at the front and the height adjuster is a joke - only pumping up the rear seat height!

I appreciate that this is a basically maintenance free system and it is technologically FTW however they should have added a bit more weight to it for those of us who don't have twinkle toes Maybe I'm just loosing my fine motor skills in my old age! I can't play the PS3 anymore either

Sometimes my throttle is too sensitive other times too much play. It's never been a real problem but for preference I prefer the feedback you get from cable.

i cant agree with you more thats why im collecting a set of seats out of an 05 plate tonight , i cant wait to get the support and comfort back, i even had a set of brackets made for me by an engineering company to lift up the front of the drivers seat and they worked perfect they tilted the front of the seat up by about 20mm i paid £ 30 for them if any one wants to buy them they look factory fit and are in powder coat black and you can hardly see their there, dont ask me to put any pics up of them im crap with computors, cheers steve.

Ditto to all that.
Driving through twenty mph speed hump areas is either first gear at 80% throttle then brake etc etc. or kangarrooing after every bump.
The shame is it will very happily pootle along in second on a flat road, but I guess the council know whats best
I do miss the seats in my 2002 blob as well. Leather seats in Spec are a waste of bloody time.

Your solution is interesting. Does this mean that you have sacrificed the 80-100% throttle range, meaning that your physical pedal travel is now 0-80% throttle depressed to pressed full thereby providing a less sensitive response. ie more pedal movement required to get the equivalent % throttle?
If yes - then that sounds like exactly what I need done.
One question though is by sacrificing the 80-100% throttle range to you sacrifice top end acceleration in favour of bottom end comfort (less sensitivity)?

If you compress 100% throttle into 80% of the map then it will be more sensitive.
Ideally it needs rescaled to increase the non linear characteristics already present in the std map ie less sensitive at low throttle opening and more sensitive as the throttle opens further........ or add a spring !!!

1st gear - I hardly ever use apart from pulling away or 1/4 miles and they arent really representative of real world driving.
With the DBW throttle you can make the car do whatever you like as far as sensitivity is conerned which is simply not possible with a cable throttle. Turning the sensitivity down in the low end for cruising is easy in exactly the way that Subaru has done with the three different throttle maps in the 08/09 STi. Look at the i mode throttle map versus the sports # and you can see things that are possible on DBW that couldnt be considered on cable throttles.
Adding a spring would be a good option for those that want the throttle stiffer but personally I like the weight of it as it is being a soft southerner

I'm very interested to find out how to remap the throttle. I like the idea of being able to change it to suit the circumstances. Do you need a full electronic service tool? or is there a simpler version about for the likes of me who isn't interested in remapping for a living?
