HKS fmic install
#1
Hello guys! (and gals)
My HKS IC arrived today...and I'm itching to get it installed...the actual install won't be a biggie - cutting the bumper does feel quite serious though.
Has anyone done this...is there a template available?
Regards

Hi J,
I have fitted one of these and no you dont get a template only a postage stamp sized picture of where you have to cut it.I found the only way was to cut a little away and keep offering the bumper up till you are happy with the fit.
It aint the easiest of things to do I must admit and if you have a timescale try doubling it :O.
I would advise meshing the bumper as the core is very soft on the HKS fmic.
To give you an idea it takes me about 5/6 hours to fit a APS fmic the HKS one was more like 12!Major problems being a.I dont read japanese and b. no template
Best of luck mate and if I can help shout
Steve

Cutting the bumper is the worst bit, well that and getting the pipes the right way up
I ended up cutting the whole bumper 'mouth' back until I had about 50mm of material left before the front edge...mesh is esential, and I also made some little spacers to mount the number plate on the top edge of the bumper rather than use the 20kg lump of girder supplied

Cheers guys!
Tim>>So basically 50 mm left down at the lip will be enough to make it fit? How much clearance have you got?
Steve>>Yeah, I can't understand why a company as big as HKS doesn't do english manuals....and how hard could it be for them to sort a template? I'll come back to U if I need a tip mate, cheers!
Thnx!

Woooohooo!
It's in fellas...
Just with a few niggles...naturally the jap fellas reckon that the jap scoob has the 90 degree outlet piece at the turbo, that can be reused...which I didn't have. Doh!
Sorted it temporarily with a slaughtered rad hose...
Next issue was the airfilter....HOOJ K&N cone...piece of silicone hose...and some 3" PVC tubing had to do for now....gotta pop over to the exhaust shop tomorrow and see if they can bend me a 3" SS pipe instead.
Cutting the bumper was a pita as expected....not completely mullered up, but not perfect either.
With a V6 lip...and some net it'll be spot on.
Thank you very much guys, U all know who you are.
/J - fekin tired, and with all sortsa wounds on his hands.

Jerry, I see you have beaten me into getting some pictures up of mine for infor then
Anyway, call that a big filter, PAH I say
What happened the the mounting brackets for the pipework by the way, shouldn't there be one coming off the abs module, and another off the Air-con compressor housing?

David>>About 6 hours, 2 fairly able fellas (me and my mech) - but both lacking in the skills of reading japanese.
Tim>>Yeah I know, I really didn't know how to do these, the turbo outlet pipe is sorted though, I modified one of the mounts a wee bit (look at where it comes through the wall. Haeve you got any ideas on the other side?
It is a big filter mate....if it'd been 1 half inch longer or thicker it wouldn't have fit...

MD>>Thanks!!! Yeah I do run a Link ECU...the inlet was a bit of a pita...noone seemed to have a 3" 20 degree bend in stock...I had to look all over town for one. And I had to cut it like 7 times to get a perfect fit.

I've just recieved my shint new Bailey EVO BOV...and the missing 90 degree silicone elbow.
I haven't driven it in anger yet...but initial tests show alot more oxygen (on the afr's) in the engine...and a short 10 psi-sorta-run in 5th produced an o-****-kinda-feeling.
/J - gotta get out and fit the parts...
P.S. Thnx Nito!
