Exclamation Fuel smell in car

I've been getting a strong fuel smell in the car for the past few days, just after setting off (5 mins or so) for about 3 to 5 mins then it goes, any ideas?

The source of the smell is definitely petrol (unburnt) and is coming from the right hand side of the car from the header tank area, is there a breather that could come off in this area but not affect running?

Bugeye + cold weather = design fault with rubber fuel lines under inlet manifold where fuel starts seeping out.
It was a warranty job but strangely never a safety recall, so you'll have to either stump up silly money to a dealership to mend or just DIY mend with the fuel lines from a blobeye car or make your own lines up.

Think I'll have a chat with GRD then when they change my injectors next week, guess they could sort something out for me!

I'm guessing They'll have the manifold off to change the injectors and turbo won't they?

Spoken to James (Greenwood) today, he thinks it's the same issue with the faulty lines. As he says 6 hr job to do so I think I'll be doing it myself, is it worth getting billet fuel rails while I'm at it? E.g Perrin? I'll get a silicone inlet pipe to fit while it's off anyway - any other jobs woth doing while I'm at it?

Yep, TGV Deletes while you're there for improved airflow through the inlet manifold. Easy job to do, just takes a little while to do it properly.

sounds very much like the fuel lines, I had this issue with my bugeye

taking the inlet manifold off isn't so bad just make sure you block the inlets when its off

I swapped to a JDM inlet manifold on mine to get rid of the tgv's but i wouldn't bother if I wasn't getting a remap anyway , if your on the OE ECU you will get a cell light

I wouldn't bother with billet fuel rails unless you really like the look of them ( assuming your not planning on changing the turbo)

you can probably get away with reusing the gaskets but i replaced mine

as your doing it you might want to think about some insulated spacers

Also possible perished seal on fuel pump lid in the boot area.

Cheers, but smell is definately from the front!

Think I'll get a tgv delete solution either tgv deletes, the APS system or a JDM manifold and a silicone inlet and do the lot in one go.

Im sure the aps sollution keeps the tgv motors so you don't get cell issues

the JDM is the tidy solloution but you need an ecu tweak

No need to keep the TGV motors because of a CEL light. It's easy enough to switch off the corresponding DTC via mapping.

If you do the TGV delete no doubt you'll want a remap in which case the tuner will switch it off then.

Job done!!

Paralell fuel line mod , need a new fuel reg and a fuel line adaptor , just replace the lot with new rubber fuel line and new juberlee clamps . Would get new inlet manifold gaskets only £12 not worth the risk of using the old ones , just note the orentation of the ht leads and the fuel lines to the fuel filter .

I have had the same thing 2 weeks ago, the lines themselves are fine but were so lose you could turn them around by hand, as it does take a fair amount of time and it could be worth getting it done correctly as you do not want tobe doing it again. Subaru have a kit to overcome this issue for £140+ VAT so the other options here are more attractive. The mechanic I used took 3 hours, remember to plug in the leads esp crankshaft sensor or it will not start

Also check condition of turbo air inlet pipe for any cracks or splits as it is intercooler off to change this .

Is it worth going Billet or just re route the fuel lines to a parallel setup?
