if the car had been running 4 hrs prior to start up and it was up to NORMAL running temp then yes after 4 hrs the temp would pick back up to normal quite quickly, but this is an idication of water temp, not engine /oil temp, this is normal pressuming your temp does stay in NORMAL.

your water temp will always go up to normal running temp very quickly.its the oil temp which dosen't.if you dont have an oil temp gauge allow around ten minutes from cold to get to a decent running temp.

That sounds broadly "normal".

If your car had only been left for about four hours it will still have been quite warm. The temperature gauge needle also doesn't even start moving until the coolant is up around 50 celsius or so. When it gets into the middle of its range your coolant will be up to the "normal" 80-90 celsius range.

Don't forget though that, as 99green says, the needle only refers to the coolant temperature. It takes a little longer for the oil, and the engine as a whole, to get fully up to temp, so don't give it full beans until the needle is up to normal, plus a minute or two more.
