my fuel pump wont prime ..... ???? :o(
Hi guys, i hope someone can shed some light on an issue for me please.....
My Classic 99 impreza is not starting and its Fuel....
Fuel pressure gauge is reading zero after the fuel filter.
It's a Walbro Fuel pump.
Took the hoses off the filter and noting is coming through.
i can blow through the pipe from front to back...so pipes are clear.
the fuel pump relay(i believe, drivers footwell) is clicking when the ignition is on.
The wiring inside the fuel pump (red wire) gets 12v when the ignition is turned on briefly.
When connected up the fuel pump does nothing.
When i run an earth & 12v (behind a 15a fuse) to the fuel pump conector the pump works fine.
So........
the wiring gets the 12v to the pump connector.
the fuel lines are clear & unblocked
the pump works when connected to a battery.
is there another control circuit that will primpe the pump at ignition ????????
everything seems to be fine, but it doesnt seem to work when it all gets put back together............heeeeeelp please it's frustrating
Cheers
Chris.

first off id check the connector under the rear bench located to the drivers side this can some time fail so first point would be to check this if this is all ok
next up id check your main earth to the engine its located to the passanger side ov the inlet manifold to the rear if this is fault or not connected the pump will not prime or work.

i thought that the bench connector should be ok as the pump is getting 12v
i'll check the earth on the inlet 1st and then whip the seats out if still no joy.
Cheers for that Matty.

If you have the connector at the fuel pump disconnected you will still see 12 volts even if the connector under the seat is badly corroded. It is only when the circuit is complete will you find that the voltage is mastly dropped across the poor connection. Thus no current getting to the pump for it to run.

Thanks guys... after all of that it was the connector under the back seat !!!
It could have been two bolts and the seat out instead of pretty much the entire fuel system stripped down !!!
thanks for all your help, i'm a happy badger now the car starts
thanks again.
