i have just found out that my boost solenoid is on its way out and is noisy as hell.its the later 2-port one.i have read that a 3-port one is better.if so how do you fit one and whats good on the market? cheers

Perrin, Prodrive or perhaps a 2nd hand one off a V1/V2 classic would do the job. The Perrin and Prodrive will come with the extra bit of loom to plug into yours, the classic will need the connector cutting off, mini spade connectors putting on the end and a tight fitting stretchy boot over the end of that to stop water and dirt ingress.

Generally speaking yes but yours is a 97 car so there's no remapping for it. If you run a boost gauge keep an eye on it because if it starts overboosting you can adjust the wastegate arm on your TD04/05 turbo (make it longer) to reduce overboost.

ideal.hoping it lasts for a bit and just stays noisy so i can wait and get it all sorted with the simtek in a few months.only started being noisy today after cleaning it out....doh!!!

More than likely it will start to overboost on a 3-port as generally you run less wastegate duty in the map to get the same result. Conversely if you aren't getting enough boost shorten the arm a half a turn at a time till you get what you want. 3-port with a Simtek will work very nicely and now that they have knock control it's a great solution.
