Default top end rattling

I'm not sure if i'm being paranoid but the more i listen the more it sounds like i own a 1986 feista. I have a blob eye and just wondering if this is normal for this model. when i listen to it closely the tapping is coming from both top corners of the engine. It has plenty of oil in it but wondering if i have a blockage anywhere. does any one know how i can check with out stripping the engine???

If its both side of the sound engine equal, its most likely just valve train, injectors etc etc. Best thing is to take the car to someone familiour with subarus to have a listen and go from there.

In a couple of weeks i'm having the injectors changed to the pinks. but would they make a tapping noise from the top of the engine?

^^ Was going to be my comment.

If it only happens from cold it's most likely just piston slap - fairly common in colder conditions.

Piston slap was my first thought, although it does take alittle longer for oil to get to the tappets. What grade of oil are you using?

As above the likeliest cause of this would be injectors if it isn't temperature dependent, although there are a few other obvious explanations, most of which have already been mentioned.
