Default Advice!

I am proud to say I have just purchased my first Scooby!!!

It is an 02 bug eye wrx.. Since I have purchased it I have noticed that a belt is starting to squeek! I am presuming to be the fan belt although one or twice the steering has gone heavy when at low revs e.g. parking.

As i am not that mechanically minded does this sound like the fan belt or could it be the power steering pump??? if either is it easy to stop, apply extra tension etc. or should said belt be changed?????

The front auxiliary belt that drives the Alternator and Power Steering Pump needs tightening, or replacing.

The belt costs about £12, and available from any motor factors - Takes about 5 minutes to replace.

Check the inside of the belt (the ribbed side) - If the rubber has hardened, or there are any cracks in it, then it need changing

check the service history and make sure the cam belt has been changed around the 50k mark. if it hasnt then i suggest you get it done either asap or with your next service
