Unhappy Lack of power!!!

Help please!!!! I have a Subaru Legacy GTB 2001 TT Auto. the problem I have is a real lack of power , really slow untill the revs 5k then the turbo kicks in and the engine light comes on! took it to a place call SFR in surrey and they told me that the turbos have gone!! rubish!! I have no blue smoke coming out and it runs ok aprt from that problem! no Piston slaps or other engine issues. I rang another garage and they told me it sounds more like the booster solenoid (protech home page). can someone please point me to a fairly cheap garage that can help me out (i Live near Gatwick surrey).
many thanks
Dre

Have you had the ecu read for fault codes. - As the EML has been illuminated, there should be a code stored which may help you to identify the fault.

Having said that, the primary turbo on all twin turbo model does have a habit of neuking itself - Possibly why you don't see any real boost until over 5K

i agree with fiestaboy the first turbos job is to boost from go if u know what i mean they mostly come to 2 problems all the time and thats 1. u get a flat spot between the time when the second turbo comes into play as this happens a lot and 2. as fiesta boy says , the first 1 packs in , check the turbos play etc and also the primary turbo siezes a lot , u can unseize it by just turning it by hand but once the cars stopped again it will just repeat the problem lol so any stiffnes on the first try of turning the turbo shaft by hand would indicate it needs changed

Yeah had the ECU read, it gave a code for the TT system and the o2 Sensor. what signs would I get if the Turbo was gone (primary one)?
what sort of price would you expect to have a secondhand one for and the fitting costs? COuld this not also be the waste gate solenoid?

thanks
