Default Could this be true?

I was in local service where i bought the car because my engine is blown after 28000km 35 days ago. They told me that i will get new short block. Interesting thing is that they told me that this new engine is ordered under different ( new ) serial number then previous engines for 08 and 09 models beacuse Subaru has changed something with this new one due to a lot of blown engines with GR model. It is the same EJ 2.5 and everything but some materials for pistons and maybe something else has been changed. Could this be true? What do you think about it? Is it possible that they made a little bit better engine now?At the 1st moment i was excited about getting new, better engine but then i started thinking if that is really true

Hmm dont know if thats true or not, I thought the issue with the recent models was a mapping issue rather than a mechanical one?

the engines were on recall i belive due to piston slap ,with the pistons having too high a copper content in them they expand and contract too much and regular driving without letting the car heat up first will lead to excessive slap causing wear and mostly internal damage due to the pistons being slightly undersized when started from cold .

u wont know mate as its only the internals that will be changed and even still compretion ratios etc are all exactly the same just better tollerances in the piston expansion rates etc u may notice that ur oil will last longer but thats about it lol

bear in mind do not boot the **** of the car until it is properly run in the bottom end as u are just askin for another bottom end again lol
allow it to warm up itself without driving etc untill at least 3500 miles after the new bottom end if u want it to last , im sure the oil changes and viscosity vary after the break in period also

yes that is because of the pistons being slightly too small before they reach optimum running temperature which causes a lot of oil to seep past the piston rings due to the fact that the piston isnt pushing the bottom oil rings against the barrel tight enough to stop oil getting past because they run undersized until fully expanded , your new engine i can 100% be sure will come with revised top and midle rings and also revised bottom oil rings and also comes with different pistons containing less copper content and allowing them to stay at a tollerable size and not expand and contract too much , block , crank , rods and pistons , bearings etc are all the same as your previous engine so u could say a totally different piston setup with the same compression / power output but less oil consumtion due to the pistons being seated in the bore more efficiently on cold start / running conditions

3 rules m8

allow ur car to heat up in the morning without driving it ( best way too look after it )
regular oil and filter changes
allow it to cool down after a long drive before cutting the ignition

I would be more then happy with the new pistons in the same engine
That way i dont have to worry about my engine anymore plus i can mod it to stage2 and be safe from blowing my engine

I know those rules from before

But thanx for advices mate...I appreciate it

I dont have any plans for tuning it more then a DP, CAI and a tune ( when my warranty is out )plus that is my DD with not too much abuse...i guess the new engine can take that and still give me a lot of reliable and durable miles )

There is a number of small upgrades to the hatch engine to improve reliability because i had to have one,but the dealer did not know what these were as subaru/im are not letting them know the details.
