Default Hawk WRX

Does anybody know what the limits are for a uk hawk wrx ie for standard engine internals and gearbox!! Mine was remapped by JGM to 283bhp and 345lb/ft. Was wanting to add the Hawk STi Turbo but dont fancy the expense of damaging the engine and gearbox

Many thanks
Chris

380 to 400bhp.

Done a few with Sti turbo, intercooler makes a v quick car especially with 5speed box!

plenty of people running vf43 on wrx without issue. Weakest link I would think would be the clutch

Nope. As long as mapping is done properly they are fine.
Done hawk wrx to 415 with 6spd box but standard engine, best was 365bhp on 18g great car, blob wrx's to over 400.
Sti3 to over 400 etc

Agreed

Makes an truly awesome road car with a VF43 (or 18G) on there with the 5speed box.

Well if I can get a Turbo I will see you in March in Norn Ireland!! By the way are those Harvey Smith turbos a good job or better sticking to the VF43??

Yeah no problem.. March trip over is organised with regards to a date etc

Harveys 18g worked a peach on another 2.5 wrx I did.

The vf43 give more torque, the 18g more bhp..

Hi guys

Sorry to resurrect an old thread. My 56 Hawk has had a bit done to it at present:

Decat (stainless 3" straight through)
Ecutek Remap (AET)
New panel filter
Fuel pump
Springs / anti-roll bar
S/S hoses on brakes
Discs & pads

I have a VF43 turbo under the stairs at home (away from her indoors ) but have been reluctant at present to get it installed.

If I were to go down the VF43 route, would I need to look at a bigger tmic (Hyperflow for example?), injectors, gearbox, clutch etc ?

I'm looking at an Exeedy Spec 2 clutch anyway at present as it will need it soon, but main concern is gearbox. Will it be usable on a daily basis? Do I need to look at an STI gearbox? If so - whats the conversion like mechanically (ie everything is going to have to change or just a drop in?).

Thanks in advance!

Lee

standard clutch and gearbox, and injectors fine, standard intercooler okay but sti one better.

Useable daily etc.

Makes a cracking daily car IMO. Done quite a few hawk wrx's with VF43's and they are so useable - lots of torque and fine with std gearbox, clutch and injectors. As Simon says the top mount could be improved but should hit 340bhp with the std tmic safely.

How would a VF43 fair on a 2.0L with WRX v.1 heads, compared to the 18g?

What would the likely bhp and lb ft be for the VF43 and when would it make full boost by roughly?

Update :

I've had Andy at AET turbos working on the car since Monday.
It's now returned and wow - what a difference!

I bought a new VF34 in the end, STI intercooler, inlet, remap etc and is now running 350BHP/390ft-lb torque at 1.5bar.

Nice smooth power delivery, plenty of power and pulls right round to 6000 now. Spool up is a little slower (was 2200 now 2600).

New clutch on its way soon - I serviced the diff oil (26k on clock), gearbox and engine oil prior to mapping.

Strangely, the rear diff was as mucky as ... !!

Just need some coilovers now to complete it

I have a hawk wrx, running VF43 and Sti TMIC on standard internals and gearbox although Iam about to change the clutch due to it slipping when mapping but that is the original clutch and it's done 45k.

Car feels really good and can't wait for the new clutch to go in and get the full effect of the turbo and remap.

Good while it lasted though, eh?

I take it, therefore, the Blob WRX has the 5-sp, and not the 6-sp of the STi? (I can't remember, hence the question...)

I think its pretty safe to say now that if you change the turbo on the hawk WRX its only a matter of time before the gearbox blows up!! Its a shame the 5 speed box is nowhere near as good as the STI 6 speed box
