Default STI Inlet on a WRX

I'm thinking about putting the STI inlet manifold on my WRX. It's a 2001 model so the main difference I can see is the tumbler valve.

Is this a straight fit or do I need to do something else because the tumbler valves will be gone. The car is going for a remap soon after I make some other changes so ideally it will be done when I fit the FMIC.

Thanks for your help/advice.

Jon,

The 2001 STI inlet manifold and the WRX manifold are the same apart from the colour.

Both of them have TGV's. The only STI manifold that is different is the Spec C manifold.

If you remove the TGV's you'll get a check engine light which can trip limp home mode until mapped out. As above the UK STI inlets will have TGVs I think the JDM ones have tumbler deletes and the Spec C is one piece without tumblers.

I thought the STIs were TGV-less.

This one claims to be:

No mate,

That one on ebay has just had them blocked off, which is fine but as bluebugeye said, you will need the car mapped so the engine warning light doesn't come on

The car is due to be mapped anyway, so If I fitted this when I do the headers, FMIC etc it won't be driven until the remap anyway so that works

Cheers for tips guys.

Its a pretty good modification if done properly. Porting the tumblers afer removing the butterfly valves would produce better airflow.

Its a time consuming job mind

sorry mate, I was just asking dipsy.

If his is a newage then it must have had a Spec C manifold fitted.

Thought so.

I know a man with a Spec C, may just have to borrow his manifold

I ended up buying one myself after it worked out that the turbo hose wouldn't fit properly with the tumblers in the way

Does the TGV delete make a big difference? I assume you can tweak the map to handle this if I do it. I'm just thinking of all the little bits that I'll can be doing at the same time

How much would you be after for them

I might be in the market for these as I have to take the manifold off soon to sort out the fuel lines.

Yes, the standard WRX bodies are quite restrictive to airflow, as they contain a spindle and butterfly plate - The idea is that the aperture is closed down to speed up the airflow at low rpm/load and promote good bottom end driveability (torque), at the expense of peak airflow at high rpm/load

Yes, i can disable the codes and tweak the map for these

What does the TGV do? How does it work?

The TGV body has a divider wall to split into a larger and smaller area, plus throttle plate on a spindle.
When warming up, the throttle plate closes over the larger area, so air flow velocity speeds up and atomises injected fuel more effectively to help with emissions and less jerkiness.

As the car warms up, the throttle plate opens to allow full air flow.

Cheers Butts.

I thought it was somethimg to do with aiding fuel atomisation, but didn't know exactly how it worked, etc...
