help!!!!!! 0.5 bar boost
hi all,
got in the car today and it felt flat.i assumed my wife had put it into low boost as it has twin speed boost control as its mapped by andy forrest
the previous owner said drive in 3rd gear at 4000 rpm then hit the heated rear windscreen button twice to swap between high and low.
i was doing this all the way to work with no joy.then i noticed the car only showing 0.5 bar on the guage.i am certain that previously whether it was in high or low the guage still showed 1.3 bar.
so i think either;
a)the car has a problem and is in limp mode
or
b)its in low boost and my method of changing back into high boost is wrong.
the previous owner didnt sound 100% of the method being 4000rpm in 3rd and hit the heated screen button twice.
on my old classic it went into limp mode and wouldnt boost over 0.5 but it displayed the check engine light.
The bugeye isnt showing any lights.it runs perfect,turbo spins ok with no misfires just wont boost over 0.5.
can i make the car display the fault with flashes like my old classic?
recently i have been getting a whiff of hot oil in the car especially today.its not constant,just every now and again you get a whiff of hot oil,mostly in traffic.i havent been able to check the turbo pipes as the car is still too hot and they are mostly covered by the heat shield anyway.
any ideas?
its the essex scooby crews posers cruise next weekend and i cant go with only 0.5 bar.

Could be a leak somewhere, check all pipe work. Give you solenoid a clean out.
Do you have a standard dump valve or atomsheric? If so check this isn't open so just letting pressure out.

It's a standard recirc valve.need to investigate further.
If it was a split pipe then would it still boost to 0.5 bar ok?
The car runs fine just won't boost over 0.5 bar.
Also if it was a solenoid/actuator fault wouldn't it show check engine light?

From: East london.....with my head under my bonnet.
sounds like a faulty boost soleniod(only gets a positive switch so i doubt it would put on a CEL)- i was testing with mine the other week and was informed by JGM that if the boost solenoid was at fault i wouldn't see higher than 0.5bar- you're only making 0.5 bar- coinsidence???

As above ^^ My switchable boost map is 100% throttle then press heated windscreen on then off. It must be 100% throttle or it doesnt work.
I generally do it in a higher gear at low speed so your not moving very qucik but as soon as i go from low boost to high boost you can feel the difference instantly.
