Default Looking for a better sound

Hello

Recently bought a 32K completely standard Hawkeye 2.5 WRX. As you'll probably be aware, the standard sound coming from the exhaust on this model is really quiet and doesn't really sound like an Impreza at all.

I need some advice on an exhaust to get the thing sounding like an Impreza should. This car gets heavy use for work (500+ miles a week) so any mods I carry out in the future will need to be robust and not effect the economy in any way. At the moment I don't think I really want to splash out on a full exhaust system, so wondered if I'd get any improvement in sound from changing just the back box? I'd like to know what kind of sound I could expect and perhaps what brands to look for. I'm not that fussed about performance increases, but don't want anything that will spoil my 30+ MPG

Any suggestions

Thanks, Jack

Thanks for that. Are we talking just back boxes here or full systems?

Just back box will alter the exhausts sound and give you that burble noise. A full system WILL be noisy and probably make you deaf if you're doing 500 miles a week. Go for a ninja, vortex, or even a hayward and scott one for the stealth yet still noisy back box combo!

I had the backbox done, was ok after it bedded in but not over happy - missing that scooby sound still. I then had the center section don and made such a difference. Scooby world did all mine. Its only about 120 inc fitting for center section and very much worth it.

I then went a little further with the decat downpipe. OMG it now sound bonkers.

If you have a family a TSL Group N back box is a good compromise, quiet on the motorway, but pleasantly loud on WOT.

IMHO

the hawkeye is a lot more muffled than the bog and blob. I found with the back box and center section was great for that accelerating burbble sound and was pretty normal when cruising about 80

Just had the Prodrive backbox and centre secton on my 06 STI replaced with an afterburner section and ninja backbox combo from Scoobyworld. Lovely deep burble on tick over, and really growls when you open up the throttle. Really pleased with it for £259.
