Default Air fiter help please

Second maf has just chucked it on my uk my00 impreza
I want to ditch the big silly cone induction kit on it and go back to the airbox, can anyone recommend a maf friendly filter or am i better off just with a standard subaru one.
Cheers

K&N and Green are fine, no doubt others besides.

If you've had your car mapped with the cone filter installed you will likely need a MAF scaling tweak when going back to the standard induction tract.

Been havin the same problems on mine (MY00) for the past 18 months which i think (i hope) i've sorted now..

Had a huge K+N filter on when i bought it which i changed for a dry APEXI filter, hoping to prolong the life of the MAF - but as it turned out the induction pipe was a bodged attempt that allowed the whole thing to move about when driving along.
Anyway i fitted the standard airbox the other day (which bolts to the inner wing so probably cuts down on vibration to the MAF) with all the std piping etc, brand new MAF sensor and hey presto runs like a good'un no probs at all, idles miles better now (dare i say it..!!) so I'd recommend the std airbox and a panel filter all day long over any of the cone filters available..

Go for a Simtek ECU and throw your MAF in the bin. I know it sounds stupid but could work out cheaper in the long run as you wont be replacing the MAF every couple of months.

It's one way to go, and you certainly get a lot more than the MAF delete for your money, but IMO your post veers a little bit beyond advice and into the realm of scaremongering.

The green stripe sensors that have been sold by Subaru for the past four years or so are a darn sight more reliable than the earlier green spot version. The one in my car has been in it for well over three years and still reads like it did when new. Suggesting that they need replacing every couple of months is more than a bit OTT.

Had my car 15 months now ,bought a k & n panel filter (as I have been using these for over 20 years) and had no such problems at all. Just don't seem to see the point of spending money to buy another ecu when the current one appears to be working well.I am sure I am not the only person with a 99/00 model that has had no problems with there maf - from scrolling through previous posts it seems to be people who have induction kits that seem to suffer most opposed to those using panel filters.

my 97 has had no problems with pipercross kit.the main problem comes from when people get the kit and plaster the filter in tonnes of oil that buggers the maf up.

Apexi was recomended to me by Simon(JGM) as i had an hks on before and that along with DV delete destroyed my maf.fitted the apexi and so far no probs, just waiting on a recirc valve as some dump valves can also destroy the maf`s on the 99/00 classics, the hks ssqv i had on before the dv delete had a very strong spring and only dumped at high boost..DAMN THOSE WEAK V5/V6 MAFS ARE W*NK.

the 99-00 mafs are a bit weak but they certainly dont need replacing every couple of months,im running 300bhp and have been for quite sometime with no probs.....the issue here is when people decide to use induction kits rather than the oe airbox and filter.i would never fit an induction kit to any 99-00 car including my own.
