MY98 WRX Turbo. Running really badly - misfiring, spluttering and exhaust smells of petrol.

First thought are that the recent plug change wasn't done properly.

Is there anything else I should be investigating?

Looking for a pal (FANDANGO) - Mine is running sweet (touch wood)

Running rich, obviously .... check the MAF (disconnect and see if it changes it's running) - check the Temp Sensor (could be telling ECU it is freezing cold?)

 

Either rich or the correct amount of fuel isn't being ignited in one or more cylinders.
Wrong plugs/ plug gapping/ no HT spark supply/ leads are broken?
As it ties in with a plug change, I'd pull out a plug and check its model no. and gap as the first job.

Sounds like a Gapping problem is the first place to look

 

Prob been gapped too small.
