Question

I intend to convert my old style MY98 Front bumper to the newer MY99/00 style so I'm seeking a bit of technical advice on a few things.

Is the MY99/00 front bumper a direct replacement for the older style ? ie, is it a straight forward swap over, same brackets nuts/bolts used etc. I know the indicators are different but I seem to recall something about having to replace the bumper bar as well, is this necessary ?

My next dillema is how to remove the front bumper. I understand there are 4 bolts inside the engine bay and a couple in the wheel arch. Are there any more nuts/bolts/clips or things to watch out for when removing this ?

Any assistance would be much appreciated
Cheers

Question

Anyone ???

I really need to know whether I have to buy a MY99/00 bumper bar or not.

Hi Bel,
I met a bloke last Saturday who had just done the exact conversion. He said it slotted on the same brackets.
Cheers

Hi,
I was in Subaru yesterday asking about the fitment from a 98-99 spec bumper which I was lucky enough to purchase a brand new one from Subaru for £105.
They really are a straight swap.

One philips screw under each wheel arch. Remove casing first. Another bolt/screw behind the number plate which is a star then another normal one below.Remove lights and gril and then remove black pop out clips. Approx. 8. I think that's it.

Hope this helps

Thumbs up

Cheers for the help lads,

I hoped it would be a simple swapover and it seems pretty straightforward. MY00 bumper cover should arrive by the weekend, so once I get it sprayed I'll have a go at fitting it myself.

By the way if anyone else is interested, I might try and post a step by step guide of what's involved, when I get round to fitting it..... (Well that's if I don't f##k it up !!)

Make sure that you drill the holes for the washers first before it's painted.
