Question Aftermarket Alloy Radiators ?

Evening gang

I'm going to have my cam belt changed at some point and as some preventative maintainance I'm considering dropping an aftermarket alloy rad in but I am looking for a direct fit replacement because it seems a lot of these aftermarket jobbies don't quite fit and need work to mod them in.

Are all after market rads oversize capacity ? and what's the best fitting available ?

Simon

Simon, the mods involved aren't great. A slight lengthen of the seat holes to clear the front chassis possibly. I kept both my fans until the FMIC when we decided to bin the passenger one. c.£125 from ebay and has been excellent.

The one from Apex performance is excellent vfm @ £110 and does not need too much messing about to get it to fit

Oh is it as simple as that ? the one I have been looking at appears to sit in but sits up and is a few mm higher than it should so enlarging the holes will make the rad sit down as it should then ?
I only have the one fan here.. no air con for me so that helps and your spot on with my budget

Thanks Banny and your right there that's the one that I have been looking at but was interested to see what over makes were about and what general fits were like.
So is it just a case of enlarging the bottom locating holes to make it drop further down ? I've never removed a rad so I'm not familiar with the fitment at all, new ground again

Does sit slightly higher but I got everything to bolt back into place without dropping it down inc my radiator cooling plate.

You would just need to trim the rubber grommets to get it to sit at the correct height Tight Yokshire man here, collected mine and saved a further £8 lol

Please consider: The standard rad is alu too :-)

If you want a perfect fit, Genuine Subaru is the only way to go. (Well...genuine Calsonic, since they make 'em)

If you are worried about you cooling capacity, or have issues already, you might be surprised by how much a fresh, clean, new genuine rad will help.

And a good coolant. Try the yellow Motocool from Motul. It's supposedly bike-specific, but as long as you give the system a good rinse, you'll be fine. My car has been running very stable temps with this coolant. Better than other pre-mixed because it actually has more water in it, and water is the best coolant...as long as it's surface tension is broken.

Thanks Banny have you any pics by chance... so you did not do any metal cutting at all then ?

Cheers Setright... that has not escaped my mind either tbh, I'll check out a new oem price when I'm at it.

No track action for mine it's general driving so I've never had a cooling issue.

I've an F-Win rad, came with the car from Japan. Fits the standard mounts with no mods. Not sure what they cost/where to get them mind, sorry.
