Question

Hi all, looking at getting a boost controller and i want one now.
Would like the apexi avcr but i just don't know if I can justify the £460 price tag.

Your opinions on what boost controller for my money would be cool, you know how much, what type where'd i get it etc....

Many thanx.

Depends on what features you want.

AVC-R and HKS EVC Pro give you RPM mapping of boost. AVC-R also gear judges and has a nice display.

Blitz, HKS EVC IV and GReddy products just have one boost aim and various arrangements for setting gain and overboost peaks.

Many argue that a standalone ECU or Ecutek remap if available for your MY are more worthwhile once you consider how much you spend and realise the gains you can get from optimising fuelling for example - similar effect by leaning out by 1 AFR point as adding 2 PSI on some cars.

However, the best aftermarket controllers arguably give better boost control than the standard ECU, Link or Unichip setups.

If you are into microcontrollers you can build your own for about £15 and I have done most of the work for you

Cool

Micro controllers? did a bit of electronics at college yrs ago but that sounds complex. Build your own boost controller.

A ecu is going to set me back over £1000 i didnt really want to spend that much. Going to get a apexi afc to control the fuel/air as that is a fair price compaired to the avcr.

I would love to just get my soldering iron out and visit maplin, but i'd just mess it up.

By the time you have the AFC and AVC though you are getting near to ECU money. How about Ecutek? What model do you have? About £650+VAT all in for a remap inc RR runs - not bad?

Thumbs up

That don't seem bad atall john. Cheers dude i'll look into it.

WRX my95
apexi turbo
HKS superdraggor exhaust and super power flow filter
jap inov decat downpipe 3.5 inch.
blitz bov

Basic spec.

Looks like they only do 99/2000 ecu upgrades at the moment.

I need something to run my turbine it's just not at it's full potential.

Do PE not do their Phase one for earlier cars still? The old ECUs are not reflashable and need an EEPROM or piggyback type solution.

With a WRX you would benefit from a remap to work better for UK fuel - adjusting the boost could be more hazardous otherwise.
