Default Battery Upgrade

Not sure if this is the right section but;

I'm looking to replace my halfords battery, it was on the car when I bought it last year so have no idea when it was put on. I use the car almost everyday and would like something a bit better than the halfords crap that's on there at the moment.

Just wondering what people have on their classics.

Halfords own brand is not crap now. Have had one on my Scooby for 5 years now, the original did die because the car was left for 6 weeks without use and that will kill any OE size battery irrelevant of who makes it. Took it back with receipt and got a replacement there and then as the battery test came up with dead cell.

Depends which battery it is, Halfords do a standard one which is pretty average (I'm feeling generous) and a calcium one which is actually very good. I left the car for 2-weeks during the January freeze when I went on holiday. When I got back the car started first time, and yes it was left outside in the snow and ice

My batt is awesome

It's the same one that came with the car when I bought it in Sep 2006!!! Never sluggsih, and enthusiastically spins the motor into life first time all the time (on PFC management). Have left it for over 2 weeks in freezing weather/snow/ice etc before - no problems starting first time, etc.

Always run with at least side-lights on - don't know whether the MY93 alternator is a "smart one" though? From memory, puts out about 13.7V when driving.

I'll check its make... although I suspect it'll be an obscure Jap make or something.

I believe the smart alternator is a newage thing, certainly not early classics.

That would explain why the batt works well then - as it's always being charged, reagardless of lack of amps demand

Thanks, I use the car every week but there will be times when it will be left for a couple of weeks on the drive so the new battery must be able to cope with that.
