What a massive pain in the ***
Well went to change my spark plugs today, first time on my WRX. I am quite competent (believe me i am lol) and the whole process looked awkward but pretty straight forward. Imagine my surprise (which quickly turned to rage) as i stumbled on the first one.
Got all my tools together and removed left hand rear coilpack first, seemed as good a place as any to start. Took it out easily only noticing how bloody cold it was with the wind blowing. Got my trusty plug socket out and started to undo the plug. Being used to normal engines i have always thought the plastic grommet inside the plug socket was a great idea, enabling you to lift out your plugs easily, just think about my anger when i needed to change my ratchet for a smaller one and could not get the socket back off the plug as that lil grommet was holding on fast.
Realising i didnt have a step up so i could use a smaller ratchet i then spent the next 50 bloody minutes trying to get the socket off the plug!! I was threaders, tried everything i had to hand, the air was blue, in fact if my cat had strolled past i would have booted it just to make me feel better. Finally got it off, put the coil back on refitted washer bottle and threw all my tools back in my box and slammed the shed door shut.
Now inside warming up with a cuppa, jeeeeees what a pain in the ***. The small rubber grommet that would not give up its grip is now somewhere on my roof after i launched it.
Might be easier on my next go
