Forget it mate! Serious wonga - and all it can do is ruin the driving experience, ergo make your engine run worse, worse fuel consumption, etc.

Spend the cash on new PFR7 plugs, new panel filter, etc... or some other much more beneficial mods...

Generically, an after market VTA valve isn't as good as the OEM one.

But if your car is running okay with it and you like the way it drives, then by all means keep it.

But you could sell it for a bit of cash and put a cheap 2nd hand OEM one back on for better running... plus you'll prob make a bit of cash (out of the unwise ) from the whole process! Win-win.

They pop up on eBay. It's black plastic with an inlet (from TMIC end) to outlet (for the recirc port on the turbo intake hose, via a bit of curved hose). The inlet's on the bottom, vac port on top, recirc port on the side at 90-deg.

I've looked and there isn't one on there at the mo. Try on here in the classifieds as well. Aslo look fro MY97/98 v.3/4 cars being broken.....

I'd personally put your OEM airbox and panel filter back on. The larger airflow from that Apexi filter could adversely affect (lean out) the air/fuel ratio. You have now got more air going into the MAF but the MAF isn't calibrated for that extra amount, so is constantly sending the 'wrong' signal to the ECU (with respect to the actual density of air going in the engine). It might be okay - the ECU may be able to add more fuel to compensate and be happy. But it's an unknown.

So either refit OEM stuff... or... rescale MAF, and/or check AFRs on a rolling road for peace of mind...

AFR = air/fuel ratio.

* Either a fresh OEM panel filter or an uprated one such as Green/Cosworth/K&N/Apexi is fine.
* Walbro 255 fuel pump
* New OEM fuel filter
* NGK PFR7B spark plugs
* Catback exhuast system (if not fitted already)

All these mods will help the engine breathe/run sweetly, WITHOUT requiring a remap.

If you want more, then a remap will be be needed for the further mods, thus neccessitating further discussion...
