Welcome. It's impossible to give you a specific answer to this question at the moment as you haven't given us enough to go on - primarily what car you have and what its state of tune is.

However in general terms, on a standard to mildly modified engine, there's no advantage in fitting an induction kit. It won't get you a significant power increase, and yes, in some cases it'll make the car run worse, to the point that if you're unlucky you can end up causing serious and expensive damage.

There's plenty written on this subject so the search button up top is your friends.

Again depending on what you've got and what its power level is, the best all-round option is usually a good quality aftermarket (K&N/Green/Cosworth) panel filter in the standard induction assembly.

As Splitpin said, at that power level stick to a panel filter, you need a lot more before an induction kit makes sense.

Re terminology, the early UK models were labelled Turbo 2000 AWD rather than WRX I think?

Right, so that makes a bit more sense. You have an Impreza Turbo 2000 AWD (i.e. a UK specification car)?

Answer remains as above, an induction kit won't do you any favours at this power level, and depending on what model year of car you have might cause you an expensive headache. Good panel filter is the way to go.

Again depending on what model year of car you have, refitting a standard dumpvalve might help it a bit too.

Also a good idea, as splitpin says, to remove the dumpvalve if it's a VTA one, and go back to the standard recirculating type.

Kinder to the engine.......
