Pull the passenger side front footwell carpet back
Undo the 3 X M6 bolts and 1 X nut, securing the tin cover.

Undo the M6 nuts securing the ecu and release the 3 (or 4) electrical connectors and remove.

To open the ecu case, undo the small phillips head screws on both sides

No need to disconnect the battery.

I've probably changed over 100 ecus without disconnecting the battery, and never had an issue (yet) -

If you don't disconnect the battery before removing your ecu, and it decides to **** itself, don't blame me

Why would you want to do that? As Fiestaboy has already said there are no components in the ECU anywhere near sensitive enough to suffer as a result of the connectors simply being removed with the standby battery power still running into it.
