Question Whats the Best Exhaust To Go For On a Classic? 3'' or 2.5''?

Hi guys,

I've got a standard Impreza 2000 turbo (As a side question what version would that be? V3 or V4) the standard exhaust is looking a little ropey and as I have plans to increase the power to around the 330bhp mark I was think I best get a decent exhaust.

But... after reading so many threads on the subject I'm well and truely confused.

I was going to go for a Haywood and Scott bell mouth decatt down pipe and a 3'' decat system finishing off in a single 3'' oval back box by revolution.

What do I do come MOT time though regarding the emissions and more important to me (I'm sure I can find a friendly test centre) do I go for 3'' or 2.5'' centre, 3'' or bigger back box?

I want a nice sound but nothing really more than standard, but at the same time note restrictive, I might as well go for a standard item if that were the case

Any advice will be very much appreciated.

What year is you UK 2000? H&S is a good choice & the blitz NUR spec is also good but maybe abit loud for you. Its always hard to dodge emissions unless you know garage that are decat friendly.

2.5" mate no question !

I have a 3" decat (for no other reason than I had one) mated to a reducer 2.5" centre and H&S scoobysport BB. 1995 classic c.320/320. H&S recommend sub 350 to go for 2.5 and over that the 3". At the 330 mark you would gain little to nothing from running a 3" except extra noise and cost. FWIW I have run a 3" on mine and it is more torquey with the 2.5.

In addition on my MY06 STi I run a H&S Sports cat/to full decat to Nurspec BB with the important part of the system being 2.5". 335/375.

94bd, without the antilag obviously !

I would go for 3". I bought A 2.5" thinking i wouldn't need more, but then inevitably had to change it when i wanted more power. Buy once.

a version number is only alocated to the sti's, if your car is a 97 reg it's a my97 if it's 98 reg it's a my98 and so on (my= manufacturer year)

Being pedantic, I think it actually means "Model Year" (but ultimately amounts to the same thing)

So the 2.5 is more torquey than the 3 under 350. Best get me a 2.5 then by the sounds of it.
