The car failed on emmisions quite badly so I bought a new downpipe and O2 sensor but not from Subaru dealer.
The downpipe has a hole in it for an O2 sensor between the cat and turbo, but my car (93 wrx import) also has the O2 sensor in the headers. I have 2 sensors now so plugging both holes is no problem. Which leads on to the next problem, the sensor supplied looks different to the original with the wrong connector also, but it is listed as a replacement for my model. Can I use the new sensor? and where should I use it? headers or downpipe?
Cutting and replacing the connector is no problem and a lot less hassle than sending the sensor back to the uk from denmark.
Here are links to the 2 different sensors I now have

the second pic is how the original looks.
Any help most appreciated.

Hmmn, well my own MY93's OEM d/p just had the EGT sensor at the top (with O2 in header)............
You sure you haven't got A MY97-00 d/p? I think these have the O2 sensor at the top (not in header for these MYs)... and presumably an EGT sensor further down?

I was under the impression the older classic imports (Jap imports anyway) were exempt from emmissions. I think there was a cut off 1992/1993?? I wouldn't know if this applies in Denmark.
Worth checking as it might save you a lot of hassle.
Maybe someone on here might know?

The new downpipe has 2 holes, 1 at the top for an O2 sensor and 1 at the bottom for EGT, this isn't so much the problem, I would like to know if I can use the different O2 sensor and if I should just put the new one in the headers where the old one was.
Unfortunately the emissions in Denmark have to be 0.13% if I can get it nearer than 2.6% it was reading it will help and as I have the new pipe and sensor I may as well fit them.

As said, the downpipe you have is a MY97-00 one, not a MY93-96 one. (You didn't initially mention that it had an additional hole for an O2 sensor at the top, so hence my 'confirmation' question)...
...But no matter: use a bung (or the old, disconnected, O2 sensor) to plug the d/p's top hole... and use your new sensor in the headers. This is how the MY93-96 "system" was designed to work by Subaru, so best to keep it that way - otherwise an O2 sensor in a different place may (or may not) 'confuse' the ECU.....

Thanks joz, I was thinking it would be best to use the original hole for the new sensor I just wanted confirmation on that. Do you think even tho the new sensor looks different it would cause a problem?

Do you know what brand it is?
When it comes to O2 sensors, as a cheaper after market option, the Bosch LS02 seems to work (comes complete with the connector plug too - so no cutting and splicing needed
).
But I replaced mine with a pukka OEM Subaru item at over £200!

lol
The OEM one is best, as it actually lasts a long time. Some of the cheap after market ones can literally break-up and/or simply fail after about 6 months.......

If you have a Bosch sensor for turbo engine, regardless of source, it will work well.
If you are decatting your car you do not need the heat sensor in the uppipe. Blank it off.
All 93-96 WRX have the lambda sensor in the collector of the headers, in your case, forward of the passenger seat, below the join to the uppipe.
