Default ECU Upgrades MAP?

Hi all

Got a version 4 impreza with a version 5 engine in it being run by a version 4 ecu , this was only one by a modified manifold which a forum member very kindly let me know he had for sale.

Now bare in mind it has a v4 ecu , these are nor re-mappable- agreed?
my original engine probably died of det as there was a massive hole punched through one piston, i think it was because of mapping issues. with the ****ty petrol we have in manchester coupled with a panel filter an straight through exhaust ( no cat) i think thats what caused the problem the first time round so i was looking in to ecu upgrades remaps or piggybacks, anything that would allow me to make sure it doesnt happen again , obviously please note im not looking for big power gains , before all this my car was dyno'ed at 289BHP which was perfect for me , i am not looking at going over 300bhp ( thats the figure i want) so please can some one point me in the right direction , if any one has one for sale give me a shout aswell.

Thanks

apexi would be your cheapest option about 350 to 400 plus mapping its standalone system is very good but doesnt have the toys of the newer ecu i.e launch control or anti lag and like rocking horse poo to get hold of

if you want those toys its gonna be a simtek at bout a 1000 to 1150 mapped

im looking for driveability ( with some power of course) rather than all out power, i just want to make the car totally safe with 300 bhp , would the apexi be alright with that?

apexi would be fine just hard to get hold cause there second hand only some it will take three times the power your looking for it also gives you four boost settings as long as you get a commander so you can have valet mode, wife mode, town driving, full out
