Default upgrades and security

Hello all, could do with some advice. I live in the canaries and I have a 95 classic wagon, same spec as uk wagon. I would like to get a bit more bhp,250 would be great, however i have no subaru specialist for remap purposes and the spanish mot is pretty restrictive concerning emissions and decats.
After looking through the forum every night for the last few weeks (addicted) i am thinking of fitting some gauges to keep an eye on things a bit better, boost,coolant temp and oil temp, is a knock sensorexpensive/compulsory!
Any suggestions gracias, cheers

A knock sensor is not necessary. But is useful once you start tuning the engine, you comment that there is no one to map the car so in my opinion you need to sort the chassis out. So uprate the suspension, fit better bushes, but if you have no-one to do a 4 wheel lsaer alignment then you will make things worse when changing the suspension. Replacing all the bushes will tighten things up so may be your best option. Good handling and good brakes are better than a bhp increase on a standard chassis car.

thanks for the reply,
I am happy doing the mechanical stuff so will be sorting the handling out,we have one laser alignment place so ok there. Its the ecu stuff i need some advice with, is there nothing i can do without a remap? would a s/h pro drive ecu fit my motor or is it too risky?

From what I have seen on this forum as well as SIDC, there have been a number of engines that have gone bang with the PPP setup. The PPP is a generic re-map so is not car specific, thus any issues such as slightly different compression ratios, different turbo characteristics, ets. All due to manufacteuring tolerences are not taken into account. A uprated intercooler be it top mount or front mount, along with a uprated fuel pump and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator such as aeromotive, DON'T FIT A E-BAY CHEAPY, with provide protection and get the OE setup running to it's best. If there are a number of Subaru's near you you could approach the likes of JGM to see if he would come out to do a session of mapping.

cheers, so i can fit an uprated IC, uprated fuel pump and fuel regulater without a remap, will this give a noticeable bhp increase? Is it worth fitting an oil cooler aswell? thanks for the help

It will not give a performance increase but it will provide protection to your engine. If you go back through the forum you will see posts about cylinder three faliure. This is due to cylinder three being at the end of the fuel rail thus running slightly lean hence detonation. Also it is closest to the turbo and the heat which also has an effect on detonation. To combat the fuel issues you could go for a parrallel fuel installation which briefly means each pair of injectors is fed directly and then through to the pressure regulator. For a visual understanding look through this link;

Item 9.

thanks for the advice, now thinking its best to keep it running safely, its quick enough at the moment anyway. like the twin fuel feed link ,thanks. so a good start would be- pump,regulator,split feed the injectors and some gauges,(oil & coolant temp)+ afr? + oil cooler?
