Default NEWBIE NEEDS HELP.. Idle problems & spluttering..

Morning,

Right first things first, this is my first Impreza. 98 UK Edition 2.0 Turbo V3 i think.

Know a little but not a lot..

Here is the story.

Purchased two weeks ago - test drive went ok, guy booted it seems to go very well.

Next day noticed no fuel in tank - on way to petrol station noticed the car was popping and sputtering occasionaly at approx 2000rpm - filled up with the good stuff (97) - still int spluttering on way back. Also when the car is warm the idle goes from 300rpm upto 1200rpm and then back down.

Havent really used it over last two weeks - tool it for full service (minus belt - had it done 20,000 ago) @ API Impreza, they did the service (only thing they said was plugs 3 & 4 were a bit sooty). They didnt have time to ivestigate further. They said they would like to start by removing the Apexi boost control and taking car back to standard - dont really want to do that.

Here is the extra bits that I can find that have been added:

Dastek - Unichip attached to standard ECU
HKS - FCD
Apexi - AVC-R Boost Control

Does any one have any idea's what could be causing the problem or were would be the best place to go to get this investigated. The only reason I want to start taking things off the car is if they are found to be faulty!

The car did not come with alot of history and the previous owner said "it was ok when I had it!!" such a surprise.

Any help or comments appreciated.

Matt

Disconnect all the add on bits that you've found and see how it runs as standard.

I would start by looking for an air leak, if you find nothing then my advise would be the same as the first two people have given you. Take the car back to std as this won't cost you anything and then diagnose from there.

You can always put things back on that are proven to be ok. ;o)
