Default please help meeeeee please please

hi sorry about this thread but im desperate

i changed lamba sensor on my my99 uk turbo today and the car ran fine for around 5 mins then it just cut out. when i looked in the car the dash lights were slightly glowing like the car had a earth fault so i unplugged the lamba and they went out.

so when i re turned the ignition on i had no engine check light or fuel light (nearly empty) or pump sound, i was confused so i tried to start thw car but it just turned over like there was no fuel or spark. next i plugged the self test plugs under the dash expecting the fans etc but nothing happened at all its like the ecu was not there.

so i plugged the ecu int my mates my99 and his car ran fine so that leads me to think that i either got no power to the ecu if so how can i check? is it fused ? etc etc as the ecu worked fine on his car.
its a e3 ecu if that helps also my doors wont lock anymore with the remote

any ideas????

If i remember correctly its in the fuse box under the bonnet, its the larger fuse i think, i blew one a couple of years back by touching a socket onto the alternator main feed, lol. I`ll try and find out for sure for you m8

Just been out and had a look at my fuse box, it is the 80amp one, its in the bottom right corner of the fuse box above the battery, looks kinda clear plastic m8

Shane: the main relay is up under the dashboard above your right shin. You'll need to remove the lower cowl panel to even see it. Power to the relay, and to the ECU and fuel pump comes via SBF5 in the engine compartment box. This is one of the smaller 30A fuses. Check this one before you do anything else. Have you checked all of the fuses, both in the engine compartment and behind the coin tray?

As well as fixing whatever's gone wrong you need to work out what happened. Is this a brand new genuine Subaru sensor or an aftermarket one? If the latter is it possible you've mixed up the wire colours when making up the plug? Either way keep the new lambda sensor unplugged until you've got the car running again.

Do you have a digital multimeter by the way?

Hi thanks for that i have checked all the fuses they are all fine should the main relay click when i turn ignition on? And i dont have a multi metre at present looks like i better invest in one this morning. Oh and the sensor was a genuine one mate

Yes it should, when you turn the ignition key from ACC to ON, although you'd often struggle to hear it above the sound of your keys jangling, fuel pump priming and so-on.

And i dont have a multi metre at present looks like i better invest in one this morning.
You can pick them up dirt cheap but you also need to bear in mind the time it might potentially take learning how to use one to get you to get to the bottom of this problem. Getting an auto electrician or Subaru specialist to look at your car is probably the quickest way to get going again.

In the meantime, a couple of further questions:

When you turn the ignition key from Acc to On, and then switch the lights on, do they come on? Do the indicators, brake lights, fan and so-on work?

When you replaced the lambda sensor, did you do it with the intercooler in situ, just sliding a ring spanner over the old one to loosen it, or did you take more bits off?

Oh and the sensor was a genuine one mate
Well that should rule out one potential explanation then, may be that replacing it was a coincidence rather than the cause of the problem. It was brand new I take it? Leave it unplugged at least until you've got the car starting and running again - as there is at least a small probability that you've got a faulty one.

Hi guy's well i had to bite the bullet yesterday and call out the professional 's and £150 later it's running again :-) . Apparently i had a earth go down and that in turn caused the main feed for the ecu to over heat and burn out so the guy made me a new feed and re wired it for me. Thanks for all your help guys Im very gratefull
