in know this ,. its running on 99ron fuel , but you can get them mapped to run on normal fuel also 1995 and earlier imports run on 95 ron so im told, but my question is how can i check to see if it will run on a lesser fuel,.

Does your car have an aftermarket ecu motherboard, apexi or simtek. If not then it will not be mapped as you cant map that age. Why would you want to run it on sh1te 95 anyway.

Rubbish the high octane fuel was not avaliable in 1995.

To the OP
You can run it on 95 without mapping but you will not get the performance (i did this on my 93wrx and it was fine changed to 97+ and it was so much smoother).
You can run it on 97+ fuel (except BP ultimate which seems to disagree with Imprezas) i ran my 93wrx for 6 years using Optimax,V Power,Tescos 97 + 99RON ,Total Excellium.

The only way you can 'check' what it will run on is by putting whatever petrol in your tank and going for a drive or rolling road session.

100 RON fuel was released in Japan about 1999ish.

Your car will run but not to the best it can and i certainly wouldn't drive it hard on 95.

Personally i would only run it on 97+ if you're stuck and can only fill with 95 always worth carrying around something like Millers Octane Booster (do a quick search on here for peoples opnions on which fuel additive)

Yes we all no it was not around then, but as this thread is in 2010 and not 1992. I advise to use 99ron and this is what he should be using to get the best from the car.

Thanks for reminding me of the year i'd almost forgotten
But the year doesn't change what map is on the ecu and what they mapped it for not a fuel that didn't exist at the time?

You stated

'first it needs to be runin on V power 99 ron only, and been an inport runin on any thing less will cause det.'

How will it det on the fuel it was mapped for unless there is a fault with the car (serious question)?

find a tuner with some det cans, fill it with 95 and go for a spirited drive and the tuner will let you know if its safe or not.

doesnt this tell you that the car was knocking on 95 and the ecu was retarding ignition - hence why it went better on 97.
