I'm wondering if anyone can shed any light on my problem.....

I have a 1998 Terzo 70k miles, completely standard at the mo.

I have a tappet like noise coming from the engine, but from nowhere near the tappets... It seems to come from somewhere under the intercooler?

I get the noise when the engine is cold, but it doesn't go away straight away when it's warm, it goes after maybe 20 mins of driving, and doesn't come back at until next time it's cold?

I've read a bit about piston slap here, but would that come from that area of the engine?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

 

MY97/98 car famous for piston slap. 20 minutes excessive tho. Both my MY97's sound like a bag of spanners for about 5 miles, then smooth as a silk (or as smooth as any scooby gets, I've had 4).

Get it checked by a pro if you are worried. When piston slap is confirmed then forget about it and enjoy the car.

 

whenever i hear rod knock its from under the cooler. id say as long as you have good oil in there, its up to level. theres not much else you can do tbh

 

if it goes when warm i wouldnt worry about it. mines the same.
