Default Problem with boost!!!

Hi chaps,
Ok I noticed the other week that I was only pushing 0.75 of boost but since then I got a remapped chip that would produce 1.1 bar. I fitted the chip and had a massive improvement but it was only 0.9 ish so I was missing a little bar?
I have just been out in the car today and it's now only hitting 0.5 bar!!
Any offers as to what this maybe? Could this be the actuator?
it's a 96 sti td05.

Help please

Or are there any scooby specialist near Essex as Extreme Scooby has shut!!

i would be interested to know this solution too

i have a standard wrx import 1995 td05

my normal boost was 0.7-0.8 great! but when ever it feels like it will only boost 0.5 and i dont understand why

i have recently had to replace a coil on the battery side and checked the other one but im not sure about the opposite side.

Right I cleaned the boost controler out and swapped the actuator and it's boosting up to 1 bar.

You could do with one of these chips for when you sort your boost out as they will make your car awesome..

Im having this exact same problem....

Car in question is a 1994 V1 sti, normally runs 0.8 to 0.9 and randomly drops to 0.5, and then can just as quickly return back to 0.8 to 0.9.

This can happen all in the space of a mile, but then somtimes it will stay at 0.5 for 30 - 40 miles, its totally random.

Im guessing its some kind of limp home mode?

Is this a comon problem? Any sugestions as to what it could be?

BigBez i usually commute between manchester and burnley so maybe its somthing in the air around here

MMMMM lets hope someone can put the finger on it. I hope mine is fixed and not like yours V1-sti!! Another quick thought though, if it was a "safe mode" limp home that would mean the ecu had picked up a problem so wouldn't it bring on the CEL? Just a thought.. Mine has had no light come on.
I'm originaly from Manchester so maybe it's a Subaru curse lol

it annoys me this as ive had it since the 2 years ive had the car

i dont use mine much, but one it will boost then the next day 0.5 then a week later back to normal and so on...

has anyone tryed any engine and injector cleaner is a low fuel tank at all ?

ive gonna check the other two coils just to make sure, as i blew a cracked one doing 90 through a puddle and it put the exhaust overheat light on

i think i get throttle position sensor come up in my CEL what could this be ? have had it for a while

I found that as soon as you uprate sumthing you find out where the week points are - These motors are getting on a little - just gotta remember that when you renew one part another comes under strain - especially when uprating things!
STAYING A LITTLE SENSIBLE AND READING UP ALOT WILL HELP! **** - WHO WANTS SENSIBLE!! HEHEHEHEHE! True though - these motors will benefit from standard all round replacement and service before hiking the power up!

well, its got to be something logical.

if your boost is 0.9 then 0.5 maybe the Actuator is faulty, a worn spring meaning it is open when it shouldnt be releasing the exhaust gases out the wastegate

The thing is, the cars more or less standard, only thing on it is a back box and a boost gauge..

Im thinking its something more electrical, its way to precise to be somthing like a worn actuator spring, when it drops its always to 0.5 bar exact, and when its fine its always 0.8 bar, theres no inbetween, im more or less convinced its the ecu pulling the boost but why im not sure.

I agree - Work through the bits one at a time (starting with the cheapest) or if you have the wonga replace everything that needs doing - it cant hurt to renw parts in the system where the prob is. I dont think its a terminal issue - just age!
Pays youre money.........
Have a go dude!!

I would say then something has just given up after all these years -- Check the coils and hoses etc first - It is really just a methodical, bit by bit breakdown bud!
