Default 2003 STI Prodrive, Worth It?

Am currently looking for a 2003 STI, is it worth sepnding the extra and getting one that has the Prodrive option? I'll probably get it mapped anyway so would a Prodrive car see better gains than a standard STI or will they both be about the same?

The Prodrive car would give a better base for modifications. I think you could probably get another 30bhp from the remap of the Prodrive car, as it's already got a sports cat, decated centre section, decent back box etc.

I had same car and ended up getting it mapped. With the Prodrive exhaust system and VF35 turbo you could expect 330/330 give or take from a decent re-map. Good point is no MOT hassle. Straight decat and new back box etc on 'normal' STi you may get 340-350 ish after re-map, but MOT hassle.

Thanks for that, worth it for the sports CAT and deCAT alone then.

probably better.. if you intend getting it mapped anyway... go for a nonppp car and add a decat downpipe and then get it mapped.

Hi simon, i have a 2003 sti ppp + remap to 345, what could i expect from a total decat + 2nd remap, and would it pass emissions test with just the middle cat replaced at MOT time ? , cheers.

Have you managed 345bhp from just a remap on a STI PPP? I'd be happy with that to be honest so maybe i'll do that.

Otherwise what your saying is if i can get a non PPP cheap enough to add a sports cat, decat and remap that might be the better option.

345 from a STi PPP is a very good figure just from a remap - on the upper limit of what is achievable I'd say (JGM managed to eke 340 out of mine albeit on an 18g turbo rather than vf35). Best route for you really depends on what you want from the car and/or MOT/road legality. If you want to go sports cat, then the Prodrive one is one of the best. Either buy PPP'd car and re-map or buy Prodrive sports cat or other good 100 cell system and re-map. Base your expectations a bit lower than 345, but 330+ with similar torque is almost a given, varies from car-to-car.

To be honest i've had my fair share of messing around with cars and am now looking for something pretty quick for minimal upkeep and fuss, if i can start off with a PPP STI and remap it to 330bhp i'd be happy.

Mine is quick enough for me and no hassle; only changed turbo due to original vf35 coking up and dying. Speak to JGM for re-map.
Good luck whichever way you go.

mine also has a green panel filter , resonance box removed with a straight through miltec pipe, and a samco air box pipe (to replace the heavily ribbed one ) dont know how much difference that all made .
